Intuitive Eating and Real Food

IMG_1879When I first started formulating a plan to lose the pregnancy weight my first thought was to simply return to Weight Watchers and start the process over again… I mean, it had helped me shed my weight the last time so why not stick with what works?

The simple answer: evolution.

I have evolved as a person and have more insight into my body and how the human body processes nutrients which tells me that weight loss (for me) is more than a calories in, calories out sort of deal.

So let’s call this an experiment of sorts because starting today I’m entering uncharted waters. I’m going to practice intuitive eating. Now before you roll your eyes and think that I’ve jumped ship on the keeping it real Aly who ate any and everything, let me just say that this time around there is more to my life than the vanity if smaller clothes sizes. I’m a mom now and last week, my grams was diagnosed with breast cancer. I cannot, in good conscience, continue to eat however whenever. I am responsible to my little girl and I owe her the healthiest mom I can muster up.

Now with that said, does that mean that you’ll never see another French fry, brownie or slab of beef tenderloin? Abso-friggin-lutely not! I am just trying to move toward a more balanced, holistic lifestyle.IMG_1877

The Plan

I believe that education is key. The more you have in your tool box, the better equipped you are to handle circumstances as they are presented. With my husband’s support and encouragement, I enrolled in Megan Telpner’s Culinary Nutrition Expert Program. I can’t even begin to tell you how excited I am about this! Starting this September I will be learning about all types of new healthful food and flavour combinations.

Until then I’ll keep practicing sense (that is no longer common). I’m trying to stay away from packaged food and eat real food as often and as much as possible. It’s really that simple… not easy, but simple. I take it one meal at a time and batch cook whenever I can.

I’m visiting my favourite whole food blogs often for meal deals while adding my own creative flare. I am also trying to eat when hungry. Being pregnant gave me an excuse to train this out of myself. I will figure out slowly how to read my hunger cues again.
