Week 16

I am loving the 2nd trimester. I feel like my normal self for the most part except for the whole heavier than thou thing!

How Big is the Baby?

The baby is as big as a Avocado! What’s nerve wracking is that you have no proof someone is in there except when you go for an ultrasound or hear the heartbeat. All of the time in between is based on the security of last time. I can’t wait to feel movement and according to all of my apps and emails, it’s coming any week now.

“Your baby is about the size of a pear this week. Some of the more advanced body systems are working now, including his circulation and urinary tract. Your baby may be playing with the umbilical cord — grabbing it and letting it go again.

Every week my apps differ on how big the baby is… I should just stick to one and go with that.

Body Changes

New clothes make a bit of a difference but I realize taking pictures these days requires a bit of finesse. I can’t just pose any old way and hope for a good pic. Nig and I took a pic where I’m sitting on his lap this weekend and I literally look like I’m about to swallow him. There is another pic of us standing side by side and the angle is perfectly flattering.

I don’t know really. I don’t think I will ever be comfortable with my pregnant body because I wish I had been in better shape before I got pregnant and I also wish I hadn’t been such a pig in my first trimester. My arms and legs are huge and when you combine that with a big belly it makes for a round looking mommy-to-be.

I have morning tummy still where I look about 4 months pregnant… by evening I look a full 7-8 months.

16 Weeks, 4 Days


Feeling so much better so far… I’m so afraid to jinx it but things have been going really well. If not for work right now I would basically be stress free. Work is bringing me down.

My husband doesn’t irritate me nearly as much now in fact I am begining to remember why and how we made this baby in the first place. It’s wonderful. I love my husband.


Getting enough sleep has really been key to my energy. I am still tired most days but I can now get through a day without a nap whereas before I couldn’t get through the day without one.

Feeling really heavy. Stairs are a pain again… I feel the weight of my body while doing anything that requires loco-motor movement. Scratch that… I feel it anytime.

What I’m Eating

This week has been pretty random. I had a much needed PD day thrown into the mix after a round and a half of parent/teacher interviews. I had some salad and pizza this week, wings, fish and no chips, sushi and other things I didn’t cook but tried to keep a little healthier. Then my amazing husband and I were away for the most special weekend we’ve ever had. We used my urban spoon app on my iPhone to find some neat new restaurants. I had a huge hankering for authentic Mexican this week.

However, the first restaurant we stumbled across in Kitchener, Ontario was Pupuseria Latinos – authentic Ecuadorian and Mexican Cuisine. The restaurant was nestled in a little house that had been converted into a restaurant. Our entire bill was $25 for a bunch of different dishes.

We also lucked out on a really need Mexican Restaurant in Niagara Falls called Taco n Tequila. The food was amazing. Hubby asked to take home some of their famous green hot sauce.

We split an amazing Mango pop. I need to find this somewhere…

We ordered room service for breakfast and split it all. It was the perfect decision and we were both perfectly content with our level of fullness.

After we checked out in the morning, we tried to head back to Taco n Tequila only to find out that they were closed. I was so mad but we sauntered into the restaurant next door called Johnny Peppers. They have a wood oven where they bake their pizza. It was right up my alley.

What else?

Pregnancy brain is so real it’s ridiculous. I forget that I haven’t posted on this blog but then I wish I remembered things like what I ate this week or things that I liked. By the time I sit down to write I’ve forgotten half of what has happened throughout the week. I need to take pictures of everything.

I bought myself another pregnancy book Oh, Baby! Pregnancy Tales and Advice from One Hot Mama to Another. So far I am loving it! I’ve always been a huge fan of Tia Mowry and reading her book has made me an even bigger fan.

Oh and I won a contest! I won a $100 gift card for Thyme Maternity during their customer appreciation event. Things are lookin’ up!
